**Food Hacks: In this new series I'm sharing food and kitchen tips making your time in the kitchen much more of a breeze. Many tips are insights from my studies in Agriculture while at university. Join the conversation and share your most lived by tips in the comments below.
This quite possibly could be the most useful tip - are you ready to have an, 'oh man, why didn't I think of that', kind of a moment? I definfienly did. While I was studying Agricultural Business in university, I took a California Fruit Growing course that taught me this exceptionally easy tip. Fast forward 4 years and it has proven to be one of the best tricks out there.
And here it is...
Take an unripe avocado, place it on a baking sheet and warm it in the oven on 400F for 5 minutes. Pull it out of the oven and let it cool to room temperature.
And there you have it - now you got yourself one very ripe and tasty avocado. And I'll throw in this extra bonus tip -- when you're out at the market and need a ripe avocado that second, all you do is peel off the small stem on top and if the skin is dark brown - then it's over ripe, and if it's white - than it is not ripe enough. You want the color to be somewhere in-between, like a creamy brown.
And if you're in the mood for a freshly ripe avocado salad, try the recipe from the below photo! All you need is an avocado, orange slices, cherries, apricots (or any stone fruit) and a drizzle of fresh orange juice -- mix and you're done!
Craving something more substantial? Then try these two baked avocado recipes:
Have you guys tried this trick before? I swear it's the only way I'll ripen an avocado since it only takes 5 minutes! Could never go back to the 2 day long brown bag + apple slice again.
And if you give these a try let me know how it goes! Leave a comment and tell me what you think. Your notes always help me improve the recipes and articles for you. I appreciate hearing what you guys would like to see more of - more recipes, lifestyle posts, photography advice - shoot me a message so I can get started!
