I love this porridge. Ever since I started making it a few months back I cannot get enough! I’ve been waking up each morning craving this spiced breakfast. I never thought I could break my addiction to my baked berry oatmeal but since berries are out of season I wanted a porridge that uses the delicious fruits of winter. I’ve been on a spice kick lately and thought to try it in porridge. It has now changed my whole perception of what oatmeal could taste like. Adding turmeric, ginger and honey really brings a whole other dimension to oatmeal! It is just so nourishing and warming - perfect for the winter months. The spicy ginger, earthy turmeric and sweet cinnamon blend to make such an addicting flavor combination that is even more delicious with a touch of honey! I love adding banana and apple slices for an even richer porridge – they just stew together and create a deliciously creamy porridge that then soaks up all the wonderful spices. The spices just linger in your mouth and make you crave another bowl! Trust me you will fall in love with this delicious porridge and will want to try turmeric in every meal!
Turmeric is an incredible healing spice that is full of antibacterial properties! It is often used to help skin aliments, flu symptoms and stomachaches. I know that it must be a bizarre idea to add a spice to breakfast porridge but it really works ever so slightly with a touch of sweet honey on the side. And with all the indulgence of rich foods this holiday week, this is the perfect breakfast to start feeding your body with delicious foods that really take care of you from the inside out!

Ingredients for the Delicious Spiced Porridge:
- ¼ cup rolled oats (oatmeal)
- ½ cup almond milk
- ½ cup water
- ½ of a banana
- ¼ of an apple
- 1 dash of ground ginger powder (about 1/8 teaspoon)
- 1 dash of ground turmeric powder (about 1/8 teaspoon)
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 ½ teaspoon honey (1 tablespoon if you prefer it on the sweeter side)
- 1 teaspoon maca powder (optional)
Simply add the oats, water, almond milk, and slices of banana and peeled apples to a saucepan and allow to heat on medium-low for about 3 minutes. Then add all the spices and honey and warm until all the liquid has been absorbed and you are left with a creamy porridge, about 3-5 more minutes. Pour into a bowl and enjoy with your favorite toppings!
